Dental Implants Q & A

What are dental implants?

Dental implants are a technologically advanced solution for replacing missing teeth. They’re artificial tooth roots made from biocompatible titanium that Dr. Rezaei surgically inserts into your jawbone. As you heal from the surgery, your implants fuse with your bone tissue and provide a foundation for a crown, bridge, or implant-supported dentures. The combination of a dental implant and a restoration closely mimic your natural tooth structures, giving you a replacement tooth that looks, feels, and functions much like the real thing.

Dental implants have been around for over 20 years, during which time the technology has continued to develop and improve. Patients who received implants in the 80s and 90s report that they’re still functioning well, however, which proves that with proper care and maintenance, dental implants can truly withstand the test of time.

Are dental implants better than bridges or dentures?

Dental implants have a number of advantages over bridges and dentures. Because they connect directly to your jawbone, they provide your jaw with the healthy stimulation required to prevent bone loss. The artificial teeth in dentures and bridges, on the other hand, rest on top of your gums, leaving your jawbone susceptible to bone loss.

As your jawbone begins to deteriorate after long-term denture use, you might find that your dentures no longer fit properly, leaving them to make embarrassing clicking sounds when you eat or talk. Dental implants, on the other hand, mirror your natural tooth structures, so they stay strongly rooted in your mouth.

Dr. Rezaei also installs your dental implants without having to alter any of your natural tooth structures, unlike when you get a bridge. With a bridge, your dentist has to grind down some of the enamel from your abutment teeth, ultimately making them more susceptible to damage.

What dental implant restorations do you offer?

As a highly skilled prosthodontist with three additional years of post-dental school training, Dr. Rezaei offers a variety of dental implant options at Dana Niguel Dental, including:

Teeth-in-a-Day

It normally takes a few different appointments spread out over a matter of months to install dental implants, but with the Teeth-in-a-Day procedure, Dr. Rezaei can fit you with your dental implants and restoration in a single office visit.

All-on-4® implants

All-on-4 implants is a treatment that replaces all of the teeth in either one or both of your dental arches with a set of implant-supported dentures. Dr. Rezaei strategically places your dental implants so that he can secure the dentures with only four implants.
